Technical Audio Devices Laboratories, Inc. introduces the TAD-E1AX floor-standing speaker system, the newest model in its Evolution Series and the successor to the acclaimed 2018 TAD-E1TX. This speaker integrates multiple advancements for enhanced sound quality, including an upgraded CST (Coherent Source Transducer) driver equipped with a beryllium diaphragm tweeter, crafted using a proprietary vapor deposition method previously featured in the 2025 TAD-ME1TX bookshelf speaker. The improved CST driver also boasts a refined midrange diaphragm with anodized coating. Additionally, the Acoustic-Filter-Assisted System Tuning (AFAST) reduces low-order standing-wave effects inside the cabinet, while the Bidirectional ADP (Aero-Dynamic Port) System delivers deep, resonant bass.

9 cm CST driver delivers ideal single-point-source sound

The TAD-E1AX incorporates TAD’s proprietary CST driver, which precisely controls the directivity of the concentrically mounted midrange and tweeter across a broad frequency range from the point of matching phase. The 9 cm CST driver delivers clear and solid imaging, as well as natural sound-field reproduction. The midrange cone controls the directional characteristic of the concentrically mounted tweeter to align the phase and directivity of their output in the crossover region. As a result, the CST driver alone achieves wide-range sound reproduction from 420 Hz to 60 kHz, while simultaneously exhibiting a consistent attenuation characteristic and directivity pattern across all frequencies.

Tweeter features a 25 mm beryllium diaphragm

The TAD-E1AX employs a lightweight yet rigid 25 mm beryllium diaphragm for its tweeter, manufactured using our proprietary vapor deposition technique. We have applied our computer-analyzed optimization technique, known as Harmonized Synthetic Diaphragm Optimum Method (HSDOM), in the design of the diaphragm’s shape. This technique allows for precise control of the diaphragm’s divided vibrations and piston motions, enabling wide-range sound reproduction of up to 60 kHz.

Midrange features a magnesium diaphragm with a high internal-loss characteristic

The midrange diaphragm, crafted from magnesium alloy, exhibits exceptional lightweight and high internal-loss properties. The combination of anodization and coating applied to its surface enhances its hardness and internal loss further. Concurrently, the suppression of even the slightest resonance originating from the connection point of the leading wire to the voice coil ensures distortion-free sound reproduction in the midrange. Furthermore, the arm of the frame basket housing the magnetic circuit has undergone a redesign to achieve significantly enhanced structural strength and facilitate the smoother propagation of sound waves behind the midrange diaphragm.

Woofer features an MACC diaphragm

The dual 16 cm woofers employ a Multi-layered Aramid Composite Cone (MACC) diaphragm, comprising laminated layers of woven aramid fabric and non-woven fabric of different material. This design enables the woofers to deliver a rich, clear sound in the low-frequency-range, while simultaneously providing coloration-free sound in the mid-to-low-frequency range. The combination of the refined Linear Drive Magnet Circuit (LDMC) and a corrugated surround made from foamed polycarbonate contributes to exceptional linearity and delivers deep and articulate bass. Furthermore, the woofer basket’s arm has been redesigned to enhance structural strength, enabling it to withstand the powerful movement of the woofer and facilitating smoother sound-wave propagation behind its diaphragm.

SILENT enclosure combines strength with an outstanding vibration-dampening characteristic

The TAD-E1AX is housed in a SILENT (Structurally Inert Laminated Enclosure Technology) enclosure, which integrates sturdy birch-plywood braces with medium-density fiberboard (MDF) panels characterized by a high internal loss. This combination imparts exceptional strength and an outstanding vibration-dampening characteristic. Moreover, our ingenuous Acoustic-Filter-Assisted System Tuning (AFAST) effectively mitigates the presence of low-order standing-wave modes inside the enclosure. Concurrently, the strategic placement of carefully selected acoustic absorbent inside the enclosure further suppresses standing waves that could adversely affect the speaker’s sound field and imaging performance.

Bidirectional ADP System ensures rich, natural bass

The Bidirectional ADP (Aero-Dynamic Port) System positions a port at the base of the enclosure, with its openings facing the front and rear. The port features a horn-shaped interior that reduces port noise and achieves greater efficiency in driving the port, resulting in clear and responsive sound in the mid-to-low frequency range. The combination of the port flare crafted from die-cast aluminum and the symmetrical front-back layout effectively counteracts the physical force that vibrates the enclosure, thereby contributing to the reproduction of powerful bass. Moreover, the 10 mm-thick steel base plate attached to the enclosure’s bottom enhanced its stability when placed on the floor, counterbalancing the reaction caused by the powerful driving force of the twin woofers.

Two color variants to choose from to match room decor

The TAD-E1AX is available in two color variants to cater to room decor preferences. In addition to the black finish (K), which was offered to its predecessor, the TAD-E1AX is also available in a new glossy white finish (GW). Skilled artisans meticulously complete each enclosure, beginning with the application of high-grade, clear coating to the surface and the buffing of the base coating, and finishing with surface polishing. The TAD-E1AX comes standard with non-slip pads for secure placement, a cleaning cloth, and woofer grilles designed to minimize adverse effects on speaker performance.
