So is the fifth studio album (and seventh album overall) by British rock musician Peter Gabriel, released in 1986. Many of its songs reflect a more conventional pop-writing style and became radio hits, others still retain Gabriel's dark, brooding sense of experimentalism. It is Peter Gabriel's second album produced by Canadian artist Daniel Lanois. The previous year, the two of them had worked together on Birdy. Lanois had been previously known for his ambient collaborations with Brian Eno as well as producing U2 since 1984. As he had with the soundtrack to the film "Birdy," Lanois brought many of his own ambient sensibilities to this recording.
A landmark in 1980s pop innovation, So returns to vinyl in a Half-Speed Mastered edition, pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. Originally released in 1986, So marked a bold evolution in Peter Gabriel's sound - blending art rock, soul, and pop sensibility with stunning production by Daniel Lanois.
Featuring the iconic singles "Sledgehammer," "Big Time," "In Your Eyes," and the stirring duet with Kate Bush, "Don't Give Up," this album pushed Gabriel to the forefront of global popular music without compromising his experimental edge.
A timeless record that bridges sophistication and accessibility, So remains a touchstone of Gabriel's discography and a highlight of 1980s rock-era creativity. Picture sleeve with large hype sticker, including a Hi-Res download card. Factory sealed & highly recommended)
