Opera Quinta v2 is the flagship model of the Classica line. This three-way floor diffuser, equipped with two rear reflex ducts and high sensitivity, delivers detailed, extremely dynamic and engaging sound. Thanks to the collaboration with Scan-Speak, it is equipped with a 26 mm soft dome tweeter, a 250 mm midrange and two 180 mm woofers, which guarantee a complete and precise sound range.
Since its debut in 2014, the Classic Line has become the best-selling speaker series ever for Opera Loudspeakers. Its renovation required long, ambitious and engaging design work, driven by the constant search for natural and refined sound performance.
The real challenge? Exceed the already very high level of the previous generation.
This range embodies the classicism of the best Italian manufacturing tradition: from the design to the construction of the cabinets, up to the artisanal attention to every detail, celebrating the excellence that has made our country a point of reference in the world.
At the same time, its name reflects the deep passion for classical music, which has always been an inspiration for Opera in the creation of Hi-Fi speakers.
While retaining its original name, the Classic V2 has been completely rethought, starting with aesthetics. New finishes include a modern wood-effect variant and a new concrete finish. The eco-leather covering, which characterizes the speakers front, top and rear, has remained a distinctive feature of the series.
The basics of the floor models have also been completely redesigned. The goal? Visually lighten the structure and transmit maximum vibrations to the ground, thanks also to the new tips with Black Gun finish.
Consisting of two shelf speakers, two floor models and a central channel, the new Classic Line V2 presents itself as a new reference in the stereophonic Hi-Fi category, without however giving up the versatility required by the Home Cinema world.
The Cabinet
The key to the new design of Opera Quinta v2 combines two fundamental but often underestimated qualities: the reduction of internal reflections, which can compromise the purity of the sound, and characteristics optimized for an ideal musical performance in the listening environment.
To improve sound articulation, the shape of the cabinet is the result of numerous tests aimed at minimizing reflections, especially in the midrange. This was achieved due to an internal design lacking parallel walls and a size ratio that minimizes standing waves.
The sound pressure emitted by the individual walls was measured with great precision and the chassis was optimized to reduce these emissions to almost imperceptible levels, lower than the average ambient noise.
Particular attention was also paid to the speaker seats on the front panel, worked internally to limit internal reflections that could cross the membranes and alter the sound.
The reflex ducts were also designed to avoid turbulence phenomena, especially at high power levels.
Drivers
The speakers used for this project feature a revamped design and were developed in collaboration with Scan-Speak. Thanks to the experience of the prestigious manufacturer and our specific needs, we have achieved excellent extension, high sensitivity and very low distortion.
The aluminium membranes supplied by the Danish manufacturer have such low high frequency resonance that they leave us amazed.
The relationship between the various dimensions has been carefully optimized to ensure an engaging listening experience, the end result of our work.
Crossover
The crossover filter is designed to ensure the desired acoustic response and excellent coupling between speakers, both at the intersection of the two woofers and the midrange, and in the transition to mid-to-high range criticism.
By using the highest quality audiophile components (anti-inductive Vishay resistors and Mundorf capacitors), we have managed to maximize the acoustic scene and respect for sound planes.
These are, for the Opera Loudspeakers team, fundamental aspects in musical reproduction, beyond simple timbral balance.
Furthermore, the use of excellent components ensures stable and long-lasting performance.
Design Philosophy
The new Opera Quinta represents an important evolution of the previous model. Thanks to a detailed study of the individual components, we exceeded the sensitivity limit of 87-88 dB, even reaching 91 dB, thus guaranteeing excellent dynamics and very linear performance even at high signal levels. This allows good driveability even with low power amplifiers.
The new design favors listening sensation over standard measurements, which fail to capture many of the audiophile features we consider essential.
