Love and Devotion brings together two of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s finest recordings — Love Songs and Devotional Songs, first released in 1988 — perfect companion pieces that capture a true musical giant at the height of his powers, supported by the faultless artistry of his accompanying party. 
This limited edition double LP marks the first time these recordings have been available on vinyl in almost 40 years, with packaging that draws on both the original WOMAD Records release and the striking visual concept by painter Russell Mills featured in later editions. A defining figure in qawwali and global music, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice and vision reshaped how Sufi devotional music was heard around the world.

Born in Faisalabad, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sings with a voice that seems to carry its own weather, and these early 90s recordings for Real World Records find him deep inside that storm. On 'Yeh Jo Halka Saroor Hae', a single line is lifted and turned until devotion slips into intoxication. 'Allah Hoo Allah Hoo' works like a chant worn smooth by use, breath and syllable locking together. 'Haq Ali Ali Haq' pushes insistence to the brink, the voice pressing forward as tabla and clapping hold the ground. By 'Sanson Ki Mala Pey', time loosens its grip, phrases stretched until they fray, meaning changing through sheer force of return.
