Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Michael Brook - Night Song [30th Anniversary Edition]

The 30th Anniversary Edition vinyl release of Night Song celebrates the acclaimed 1996 collaboration between Qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and producer Michael Brook. This landmark album blends traditional Sufi devotional vocals with ambient, cinematic guitar soundscapes, offering an immersive journey into a celebrated world music partnership.

The potent relationship between Qawwali legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Canadian rock musician Michael Brook reached compelling emotional heights on this Grammy nominated sequel to Mustt Mustt. Once again the partnership tests the emotional boundaries of the human voice. It wasn’t made in  Detroit or Memphis, but this truly is soul music.

Originally released in 1996, Night Song was the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s second collaboration with the Canadian producer Michael Brook, following the success of Mustt Mustt in 1990. It was also his final work for the label before his premature death in 1997. The album was a fusion of Western and Asian musical influences, and upon its release Billboard called it “an album for the ages, solidifying Khan’s stature as one of the world’s pre-eminent singers”. Time Out called it “the best world music album… ever!” and Mojo listed the album in their Top 40 albums of 1996.

This special 30th Anniversary Edition, released via Real World Records on stunning rose-leaf green swirl vinyl, honors the project's enduring legacy. It presents the album's rich dynamics with striking clarity, capturing the full warmth of the original analogue elements. The reissue reminds listeners why Rolling Stone famously called the collaboration "a marriage made in heaven," cementing its status as an essential, timeless bridge between Western ambient innovation and Eastern spiritual tradition.
