Placing the Omnidirectional 4Pi Plus.2 Ribbon Super-Tweeter on top of your main, direct-radiating loudspeakers results in perfect spaciousness not found with any conventional loudspeaker.

Equipped with flexible options for adjusting sensitivity and the lower cutoff frequency, the 4Pi Plus.2 can be seamlessly integrated with virtually any loudspeaker. It enables the sound to break free from the loudspeakers and fill the entire room. All without the need for additional amplification.

Immerse yourself in music—the ELAC 4Pi ribbon tweeter reproduces high frequencies in 360-degree surround sound, adding an incredible illusion of spaciousness to every piece of music. The 360-degree omnidirectional ribbon tweeter yields a resonance-free upper cut-off frequency of 53 kHz and makes this tweeter an ideal component for the reproduction of Hi-Res, SACD and DVD-A source material. Its' impressive and silky sound quality lends realistic air to voices and complex recordings.

The design principle incorporates an 0.006 mm aluminum ribbon to form the membrane, ultra-light in weight with an extremely high sensitivity. When a current passes this membrane, it expands and contracts like a breathing cylinder. Driven by a strong neodymium magnet system, the flexible ribbon yields exceptional response that is flat well beyond the limits of human hearing but essential to the accurate reproduction of ambience and hence, musical realism.

An Add-On which gives an altogether new dimension to music

I have been a long-term fan of high-frequency extension to complement low frequency extension from a subwoofer. The value which Elac 4Pi plus.2 brings to a music system is tremendous and while the price could be a put-off to many; for a true audiophile this super tweeter brings flexibility to the system which cannot be achieved otherwise. Let me write a point by point review: 1. Extension - Although the 4Pi is rated for 10 KHz and above, isolating the units and doing measurements will make it evident that 7.5 KHz frequencies are also audible. 2. Omni-Directional - Since the output is omnidirectional, it can be used to correct tricky corners and other room related imperfections such as presence of large dampeners like a cupboard full of clothes, an upholstered armchair etc. It adds a lot of of space and air to the music. Listening to HiFi Apple Music at 256 KB with songs such as Chevaliers de Sangreal and Forever Young instrumental by Martin Tallstrom will prove my point. 3. Adjustments for Sensitivity and Crossover Frequency - Gives the option of 10 settings per tweeter - My experience is to match the sensitivity with that of your main speaker and play around with the cross over. For me, the middle setting of 12KHz gave the best results with sensitivity matched to my main speakers (ATC SCM 11's) at 85 db - hence minus 2 db on the gain, since 0 on the unit is 88 db. Basically one can play around with 10 settings per speaker till you get what you like. Differential settings between the tweeters(using one tweeter at a higher or lower setting, both sensitivity and cross over, compared to the other) will correct for corners and obstructions. I recommend matching the sensitivity to those of your speakers and playing with the crossover. 4. Appearance - Space ship like, everyone will ask, what in the world are those? Please mount them on top of your speaker slightly behind the main speaker output but please use isolation pads. Always remember, super tweeters work best when balanced against similarly extended low-frequencies, a situation in which their benefits are multiplied exponentially. What this means in practical terms is that the super-tweeter’s natural partner is the sub-woofer, a truth that becomes clear as soon as you use the two in tandem, the high-frequency extension sharpening bass clarity and timing, the low-frequencies adding air and space to proceedings. It’s a fascinating experience!
