Def Leppard - Greatest Hits

It's sometimes easy to forget what a phenomenon Def Leppard were in the 1980s - other than steel, blades and owls, they're the thing that put Sheffield on the map. Their ascent to their eventual place as stadium giants began with 1981's album High And Dry, which included the blues ballad 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak'. Their third album Pyromania continued to suggest that greatness was not far away with the no-messing rocker 'Photograph'. In 1984, drummer Rick Allen was involved in a car accident which would eventually lead to the amputation of his left arm. Despite this, with encouragement from friends and family, he returned to the band, and they set about creating their career-defining album. Straddling the pop and rock worlds with total perfection, the band's fourth album Hysteria was crammed with hits, many of which feature on this compilation. The likes of 'Animal', 'Love Bites' and 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' pointed to a band shifting in tone and direction whilst holding on to their hard-won rock identity. This is the perfect introduction to a classic British band, or a reminder of just how good they were.
