The Reference 5 GS Edition is a particularly finely tuned special edition of Canton's successful Reference 5 floorstanding loudspeaker - developed with great attention to detail and the aim of getting even more out of an already excellent loudspeaker. Under the direction of company founder Günther Seitz, it has been refined with selected high-end components: the new DLC tweeter system from the Reference Alpha series, a high-quality crossover with selected Mundorf components and the proven Room Compensation technology for individual sound tuning. Visually, it makes a stylish statement with the new “Sand” color variant - warm, modern and luxurious.

The Canton Reference loudspeakers are the result of decades of research and development. With a variety of innovative technologies, these speakers set new standards in the audio world. The BC-tweeters with 25 mm cones made of black aluminium oxide ceramic ensure exceptional precision and clarity in the highs. Powerful, precise and agile bass is ensured by the newly developed woofer drivers with stiff cones made of black ceramic tungsten (BCT). The large midrange driver made of the same cone material is the perfect playing partner and delivers a highly accentuated sound image with enormous dynamic range.

The development of the Reference Series is a feat of engineering and meets perfection in craftsmanship with the new design. The flawless finishes combined with our best speaker drivers make them a true musical statement. The intricately curved sidewalls, backs and lids provide enormous stability and significantly reduced self-resonance of the speaker enclosure. As a result, the speakers offer a very homogeneous dispersion and an authentic graduation of the music. The Reference Series features new BCT cones, which are equipped with black ceramic tungsten cones. These work in perfect harmony with the large cabinet volume and the efficient bass guide system. The BCT midrange driver, housed in its own cabinet, contributes to a natural and authentic sound image with finely resolved mids. The sound spectrum is rounded off by the 25 mm BC tweeter with black aluminium oxide ceramic cone, which ensures detailed and homogeneous highs. The cable runs of the specially produced Canto-Link 400 cables, inside the cabinets, are reduced to a minimum and ensure a perfect connection. All in all, the construction of the Reference Series is a harmonious interplay of technology and craftsmanship, providing a sonic experience of the highest order.
The construction of the Reference begins with the enclosure. Each enclosure is crafted with extreme precision and craftsmanship to ensure that it is absolutely vibration-free. This detail is crucial to minimising sound distortion and ensuring pure, unadulterated sound quality. The cabinets are filled with acoustically ideal damping materials that minimise standing waves inside and are prepared for internal wiring.
In the second step, the enclosures are fitted with all technical components. For this purpose, the crossovers and connection terminals are inserted and the internal wiring is prepared. Finally, the drivers are inserted and connected to all internal components. After all components have been inserted, preparation for quality control takes place to ensure that each individual product meets the highest standards before it is ready for shipment to our customers.
In the last step, the loudspeakers are tested for heart and kidney. The frequency response is measured, all connections are checked and the surface is meticulously inspected for the slightest damage. Only if a loudspeaker meets the best requirements does it receive a hand-signed quality certificate.
DLC Tweeter
The new tweeter system with diamond-coated DLC dome tweeter ensures extremely precise and clear reproduction of high frequencies. The additional integrated, newly developed sound lens acts as a wave guide and mechanical air cushion. It optimizes efficiency and significantly expands the bandwidth of the high frequencies - for an airy, spatial sound stage and finely resolved details that bring music to life.
High-end crossover
The crossover used in the Reference 5 GS has been completely redesigned and fitted with high-quality MKP capacitors from Mundorf - one of the world's leading manufacturers of audiophile components. These selected components ensure minimum losses and maximum sound fidelity. The result: a balanced, phase-stable sound image with impressive dynamics, authenticity and fine detail.
Gold-plated connections
The newly designed connection terminal of the Reference 5 GS is equipped with gold-plated WBT nextgen™ connection terminals – durable, low-loss, and ideally suited for bi-wiring or bi-amping. For classic operation, high-quality, hard gold-plated copper jumpers are included. Thanks to integrated RC technology (Room Compensation), the level of midrange and treble drivers can be adjusted in 1.5 dB steps. This allows you to precisely tune your speakers to your room acoustics and listening preferences.
Enclosure shape
The enclosure architecture is based on the latest developments in the Reference series: rounded baffles and elaborately curved sides, bases and lids are manufactured on a precision 5-axis CNC milling machine. This design significantly reduces natural resonances and enables a particularly homogeneous dispersion pattern. Two 174 mm woofers and a midrange driver of the same size with black ceramic tungsten cones (BCT technology) deliver powerful bass and finely resolved mids - perfectly matched to the large cabinet volume and the efficient bass guide system.
