Acoustic Energy's Corinium is their latest addition to their line-up of top-performing loudspeakers. The team behind it has been working on this project for three years, with the goal of establishing new standards in design, performance, and value. They started from scratch and reexamined every aspect of music reproduction, making small improvements in each area. These improvements have resulted in a loudspeaker that is more dynamic, more lively, and more engaging than any previous model.

Tweeter

Building on the success of our carbon fibre dome on the 500 series, we identified the need to use an even lighter dome for the Corinium to maximise the transient response of the system. So, we searched for a material lighter than carbon fibre and subsequently sourced a new soft dome material. This newly developed tweeter design has now proven to lower coloration, increase delicate high-speed transients and reproduce the very finest detail and refinement.

Mid and Bass Drivers

At the heart of the Corinium is the midrange drive unit. Covering 5 octaves it’s the key element which produces most of the sound from the loudspeaker system. The new carbon fibre cone and surround helps provide specific tonal qualities we were targeting for this speaker… offering the most natural sound and realistic musical performance. The extra width of the Corinium cabinet allowed us to house a slightly larger bass driver. We went back to basics to develop a brand-new bass alignment that combines weight, speed and slam to produce a natural, realistic sound from what’s still a fairly compact loudspeaker system. In conjunction, we developed a brand new 140mm bass driver to produce a big, powerful, controlled and natural bass sound.

Crossover

Optimised for best transient performance, our 3-way crossover blends the power output of each transducer to provide a rich, tonally balanced sound. High quality components are used throughout including air core inductors, metalized polypropylene film capacitors and metal oxide resistors. The crossover is connected to the drive units using audiophile grade internal wiring which features a patented arrangement of conductors to give the best possible musical detail and dynamic expression.

Cabinet

All these ground-breaking new drive unit and crossover developments are housed in a beautifully curved, exquisitely finished inert enclosure. The hybrid ‘Resonance Suppression Composite’ (RSC) cabinets have a minimum thickness of 22mm and vary up to 50mm for optimal performance. The 4° tilt improves the time alignment of sound to listener, whilst the 6mm ultra rigid aluminium front baffle firmly houses the drivers and isolates any cabinet resonances from the listening environment.

Features
  • Acoustic Energy’s reference speaker
Established in the mid-eighties, Acoustic Energy have decades of experience in producing award-winning home and studio speakers. The flagship Corinium model is the culmination of everything the company has learnt over the years, with the end result being both stunning to look at and an outstanding listening experience. Suitable for use in all but the smallest rooms, it delivers reference quality sound, in your home.
  • The finest detail
Starting at the top, Acoustic Energy chose a new, soft dome tweeter design. Using the lightest material possible, the unit is quick to respond, meaning that it captures every subtle element of sound. The soft dome material also ensures a smooth balance that isn’t harsh or wearing to listen to over the longer term.
  • Optimal vocal response
For optimal vocals, the Corinium uses a woofer that’s dedicated to the mid-range. The carbon fibre cone is both rigid yet lightweight, giving a fast response but also reducing distortion to a minimum. What this means is that vocals sound exceptionally lifelike and natural, putting you at the heart of the performance.
  • Dedicated to the truest bass
With twin woofers, dedicated to bass, the Corinium produces a bottom end response with power and control in equal measure. Deep enough to drive the bassiest soundtracks, the lowest notes land with impact, giving the pacey sound that Acoustic Energy is famous for – just with more depth than ever.
  • Optimised cabinet design
Using RSC (Resonance Suppression Cabinet) technology, the sophisticated cabinets vary in thickness from 22mm to 50mm, giving them optimum rigidity at key points. The 6mm aluminium front baffle firmly locates the drivers and isolates the tweeter unit, helping to minimise distortion. Finally, the subtle 4 degree tilt improves the speakers’ time alignment, giving you the clearest and most cohesive sound possible.
  • Range of striking finishes
As well as being Acoustic Energy’s most advanced speaker, the style breaks new ground, too. Curved edges give a sleek look while also improving the cabinet’s performance. For the style that best suits you, the speakers are available in a choice of Matte Black, Matte White, British Racing Green and Tectona (wood) finishes.
